No output from sound device:

  1. Check ComTekk Mixer settings for selected generator/encoder.
  2. Check Windows Playback mixer settings.
  3. Play a .wav file to make sure sound is working properly.
  4. Run ComTekk's Compatibility Test (Tools menu) to verify system compatibility.
  5. Make checks with speakers connected first, before connecting sound card to other equipment.

Program will not launch or audio device error:

ComTekk Tone Generator requires both a Playback and a Recording device to be connected and enabled. Close the program before trying each of the following suggestions, then re-launch to test results.

  1. Check Windows Recording and Playback mixer settings to see if both devices are available and enabled.
  2. Plug in speakers and a cable to the MIC or LINE input to enable those devices.
  3. Windows Control Panel -> Sound -> Recording or Playback. Be sure Exclusive Mode is disabled for the default Playback and Recording devices.
  4. Go to Windows Control Panel -> Sound -> Communications. Be sure "Mute all other sounds" is checked.
  5. Update your computer's audio drivers. The safest place to obtain drivers is on the manufacturer's web site.

No input audio or inputs not visible on Scope/Spectrum Analyzer:

  1. Check Windows Volume "Recording Control" settings:
  2. Click the "Mixer" button to open.
  3. Now you have access to the sound card input controls.  If you have "Select" checkboxes for each input, check the one for the input you are using.  Adjust the level if needed.  If you have "Mute" checkboxes, be sure that input is not muted.  Most systems only allow only one input to be selected at a time.

ComTekk takes a long time to load:

This is most likely an indication that the computer you are using is either too slow or does not have enough free memory.

  1. Closing all other open applications.
  2. Close any "background" applications that may be running in the System Tray (lower-right corner of your screen). You can usually right-click on the icons to 'Close', 'Exit' or 'Disable. '

DTMF or ANI sequences not evenly generated:

The computer is not fast enough to generate the short tones and play them. Generally, the shorter the durations, this symptom will become more noticeable.

  1. Closing all other open applications.
  2. Close any "background" applications that may be running in the System Tray (lower-right corner of your screen). You can usually right-click on the icons to 'Close', 'Exit' or 'Disable. '

Some generators do not play, some do:

Could be another indication that the computer is too slow or does not have enough free memory. Try closing other applications as detailed above. If that doesn't help, open the Mixer panel, then click the STOP button before running each generator.

CTCSS or Paging tones will not play, even though I have selected the frequencies:

If your Windows country settings require commas instead of periods for decimal delimiters, you will need to download and install the "Euro" version of ComTekk (available in v1.06 and later). Visit: http://comtekk.us/downloads.htm

I can't get the auto-calibration to work:

First, see the Calibration section of this manual. If it is still not working, you may have a half-duplex sound card. One way to tell is to enable the microphone and try speak ing into it. If you cannot hear yourself through the speakers, there's a good chance your sound card is not full-duplex capable. Be sure the microphone is selected and not muted in the Windows volume control.

Tone Remote will not key radio connected:

If you are sure the radio's tone control line is properly connected to sound card output, the sound card's output level simply may not be adequate. Be sure the computer's main volume control is set to maximum. In this case, an external audio amplifier may be required to boost the signal. Length of line and impedance will affect the output level.

Also, verify the tone frequencies, levels and timings are correct for the particular tone termination panel attached to the radio.
